New host Tyra Banks was revealing which couples were safe, and who was going to be in the bottom two.
The former America’s Next Top Model star told Cheer’s Monica Aldama and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy they were safe and sent them off stage.
She then told American footballer Vernon Davis and pro Peta Murgatroyd that they were in the bottom two.
Realising the mistake, Tyra then said: “There’s actually been an error.
“I’m looking right now, and we have three couples. So we need to clarify this for one second.”
Tyra then had to call Monica back to tell her she was actually in the bottom two.
“Please come back. Please have Monica come back,” she said. “There’s been an error in our control room, but we’re making it happen. This is live TV, right? This is the craziness of live TV!”
Adding an apology to the pair, she went on: “I’m so sorry. This is live TV. I was reading my cards, but my cards were wrong.”
Despite the confusion, Monica was saved by the judges while actress Anne Heche was sent home.
Tyra later tweeted: “Wowzers. Live TV. Wrong name on cards. So challenging to deal with moments like these. But we power through.”
Also on the show, Disney Channel star Skai Jackson earned the first 10 of the series with a tribute dance to late co-star Cameron Boyce, who she starred with in TV series Jessie.
“He was in my life for half of my life, which was crazy. We built up this bond for years and years and years,” she said.
“He moulded me into the person I am now. Of course I miss him every day, but I have him on my phone case so I get to see him.”
