Mariano Diaz and Luka Jovic got a chance after Karim Benzema’s injury at the Mestalla, but in the end, it has been confirmed that the Frenchman will only be out for a week. Both will have an eye on their teammate’s recovery, in any case.
Real Madrid have now got several issues to deal with because of the injuries and positive coronavirus cases.
Benzema’s injury is the latest concern. The Frenchman went off injured during the loss to Valencia and the club announced that he just has a problem in the adductor muscle.
The estimated time of absence is one week so he should be fit for the clash with Villarreal at Estadio La Ceramica.
Nevertheless, Mariano and Jovic are keeping an eye on how their teammate is because they could have a chance to play if needed.
If Benzema’s injury keeps him out of the Villarreal match, the Spanish-Dominican and the Serb will have to fight a starting XI spot. That is unless Zidane decides to use someone else.
Mariano played his first minutes of the season at Valencia and has not scored since the ‘Clasico’ which was pre-lockdown.
Jovic has not scored for nine months. That was in a 1-4 victory at Osasuna and he has just two goals in 32 Real Madrid appearances.
