Jadon Sancho Has Been Left Feeling ‘Undervalued’ After Man United’s Ridiculous Non-Pursuit

Jadon Sancho has been left feeling ‘undervalued’ after Manchester United bid just £80m plus add-ons for his services in the last week of September, according to an extensive new report in The Athletic.

The report details the summer-long pursuit of Sancho that never even broke into a sprint, with United never getting near the £108m demanded by Borussia Dortmund.

This report claims that “Ole Gunnar) ‘Solskjaer urged Ed Woodward to keep trying, and financial concerns meant other signings were pushed to the periphery until the final 48 hours of the window’, leaving them doing several deadline-day deals.

In truth, Dortmund would not have sold even if United had reached the initial £108m target as they had set a deadline of August 10 that had passed without an offer for the England winger.

‘Essentially, United did not believe Dortmund would stay firm on the price-tag of €120 million or their deadline of August 10, embarking on a long-running game of poker without realising that the Bundesliga club weren’t even at the table. ‘

The only way to rescue the deal in the final days would have been with a bid of around £130m – allowing Dortmund to save face for going way past the deadline – and yet United bid only £80m plus add-ons, in the full knowledge that it would be turned down.

Sancho is said to have been left feeling ‘undervalued’ by United’s refusal to pay anywhere close to his asking fee.

This report also casts doubt on the reports that Sancho had agreed a wage deal with United. He is said to have turned down two offers, the second of which gave him very similar terms to the ones he enjoyed at Dortmund. It seems Sancho was seeking pay parity with Paul Pogba on around £250,000 a week.

Sancho will undoubtedly have more suitors in any other transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp among his admirers.
