Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman was furious in a press conference about his side’s kick-off times this season. He is not happy his team are playing so many matches at 21:00 CET.
The fixture schedule this season is the most packed ever. The coronavirus pandemic has led to a crammed fixture schedule and hundreds of players and coaches have had the virus themselves. All of this, as well as the international breaks, has made things much more complicated.
Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman was very critical with his side’s kick-off times in a press conference. This Saturday, they travel to face Atletico Madrid at 21:00 CET.
“We know that for big clubs it’s a very packed schedule. Playing three games (in the international break) instead of two is not good. I understand the national team coaches because I’ve been one, but I’ve never taken a risk with a player, I don’t understand why we’re playing all our away games at nine o’clock at night,” Koeman complained.
“All the matches in Ukraine and Russia have been played at seven and we have to play at nine. I don’t understand it, it doesn’t help a big team when they have to play every three days. I understand it for Atletico Madrid versus Barca because it’s a big game everyone wants to watch, but not for the rest of them. I’m very against it and you have to think more about the big clubs and the players. We aren’t doing well in that sense.”
Koeman also revealed that Philippe Coutinho “will be able to start” against Atletico after saying that the midfielder trained without any problems throughout the whole week.
