Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Is Impressed With The Job Mikel Arteta Has Done At Arsenal

Emery’s 18-month spell in charge at the Emirates Stadium came to an end in November, with Freddie Ljungberg taking interim control before Arteta was appointed.

The former midfielder had served as Guardiola’s assistant at Man City for more than three seasons before getting the top job at the Emirates.

There are definitely signs of progress under Arteta at Arsenal, having won the FA Cup last season, this campaign’s Community Shield and picking up three wins from their first four Premier League games.

That FA Cup triumph also saw a semi-final victory over Manchester City and his old mentor, Guardiola.

The two come head-to-head again this evening when Arsenal make the trip to the north west.

Guardiola is not surprised about the promising early signs for Arsenal under Arteta.

“We should clarify who is the master and who is the apprentice,” Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference. “None of the people who know him had any doubts about what he is doing in a short period of time.

“He settled really well and especially the way his team is playing right now is perfect for the quality they have. He was able to get Arsenal back to the position they were in a long, long time ago.

“He’s doing really well in all competitions. Mikel is a competitor and a fighter and has a clear idea of what to do on and off the pitch.

“All the people who love him are more than happy with what he is doing in London.”
