Oilvier Giroud made comments to ‘Telefoot’ on his relationship with Karim Benzema, who he has had the odd run in with in the past. Giroud says that he has no ill feeling towards the Real Madrid man though.
The latest controversy surrounding Giroud and Benzema took place months ago. The Real Madrid striker called himself a “Formula 1 car” while he said he former France teammate was a “go-kart”.
“I’ve always been criticised a bit because of Karim Benzema’s absence, that supposed rivalry, made up by some people. The story about F1 and the go-kart? The story made me laugh. I’ve got no hard feelings towards him,” Giroud explained.
Giroud, currently in the France camp because of the Nations League, wanted to put the issue to bed. It has been a long running dispute and it started even before Benzema had to leave the national team because of the Valbuena situation.
Giroud did not want to comment on that issue. “On Benzema’s exclusion from the national team, I’ve not to say or any knowledge of it,” he said.
“Maybe my career would have been better had I played together with Karim Benzema. We’ll never know.”
