Marc Overmars and Edwin Van der Sar could soon leave Ajax after the good work in the last few seasons and aspire to something more. United, one of the possible destinations for both in the framework of the new Red Devils project.
The recent statement from Overmars have made the alarms ring at Ajax and Manchester United. The ex-Arsenal player, alongside Van der Sar, recently acknowledged they were very “proud to have returned” the Dutch side “to where it belongs in Europe”.
“When I was assigned this job, I thought I’d be here three or four years, at the most. I’ve been here eight seasons already! For me, as well as for Edwin, it is certain that we will not remain here until we are 60 years old. This work at Ajax is costing me a lot of energy, the whole of the Netherlands is constantly on my back and giving opinions about our work”, the sporting director said.
According to ‘Mirror’, these words have activated the plan from United for a new project for the short term future. However, at the moment, these are assumptions, as there is no information that the two former players have given their approval to this option.
“We had a common ambition, we wanted Ajax to reach a European final. It did not happen. We endured it in 2017, but now we want more”, Overmars concluded in these statements. United want to recover Van der Sar, a legend at Old Trafford.
In addition, the board does not hold Ed Woodward in high regard, who hasn’t been very successful in the signings in the last few seasons. United’s sudden shift could bring about a 180-degree change, and the two Dutchmen point to taking centre stage.
