He has been one of Real Madrid’s targets for some time. One of Zidane’s, to be precise. Paul Pogba is not hiding it any more.
The Frenchman has made it loud and clear that it would be a dream come true to play for Real Madrid, something he has not ruled.
Paul Pogba is no longer hiding it. The midfielder, in a press conference while with France, spoke about his future and admitted that going to Real Madrid is his dream, which he is not ruling out fulfiling.
“Zidane?” Many things have been said. What can I say? All the players would love to play for Real Madrid. It would surely be a dream. It’s a dream for me and why not some day?” the player said.
However, he then had a message to reassure Man Utd fans: “As I’ve said before, I’m at United and I love my club. I’m going to give everything now to enjoy here and send the club back where they deserve to be.”
Pogba also spoke about his possible renewal at Old Trafford: “A lot has been said, but not by me. I’d rather concentrate on my play and on my return, above all. I haven’t spoken to Ed Woodward. We haven’t spoken about a new contract. Now I’m here and I’m only thinking about returning to my best form.
“I imagine that a moment will come in which the club will come and speak to me and maybe propose something to me, or maybe not. There’s nothing right now and I can’t talk about something I don’t know. I’m thinking especially about myself, about enjoying again,” he added.
It was always an open secret that Zidane wanted him and he even insisted on his signing. However, Real Madrid’s change in philosophy in recent transfer markets and Fede Valverde’s improvement in form, made it less likely for Pogba to come.
This season, the 26 year-old midfielder has already scored a goal and played 243 minutes in four matches. Last term, he scored just once and got three assists in just over 1500 minutes (22 matches, 16 starts) which he could play.
Pogba’s best goalscoring season came in 2018-19 with 16 goals and 11 assists in 47 matches.
