Liverpool central defender Virgil Van Dijk went off injured this Saturday in the match against Everton, four days before their Champions League opener.

The Dutchman was on the end of a bad challenge from Everton keeper Jordan Pickford. Despite the fact he tried to carry on, Van Dijk had to leave the pitch and was substituted by Joe Gomez.

Van Dijk’s injury is added to those of Naby Keita and Alisson Becker, who have still not recovered ahead of Liverpool’s first Champions League match of the campaign. It is away to Ajax in Amsterdam on Wednesday.
