Ajax goalkeeper André Onana recalled his time in Barcelona’s youth system and praised former goalkeeper Víctor Valdés. The Cameroonian also confessed that his idol is Manuel Neuer.
André Onana, the goalkeeper of Ajax, was trained in Barcelona’s youth categories until he left for the Dutch team in the 2014 season.
The Cameroonian, in a statement echoed by the newspaper ‘Sport’, shared the name of one of the goalkeepers who most influenced him during his career.
“Víctor Valdés has been the best goalkeeper with his hands. He had incredible hands. I trained a lot with him and it was incredible, because I learned a lot from him,” said the 24-year-old goalkeeper.
But Onana is taken by current Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer: “He has such good saves that you think, ‘How does he do that? He also made incredible saves against us. He’s my idol and, for me, he’s the number one in the world and the GOAT”.
